Amy received her B.A. with Honors in Molecular and Cell Biology from UC Berkeley, and obtained her Ph.D. in Molecular Pathology from UC San Diego. As a graduate student in the laboratory of Dr. Ze’ev Ronai, she studied signal transduction of cellular stress response. Her knowledge in stress signaling enabled her to identify molecular mechanisms regulating neuronal and astrocytic responses to injury as a postdoc in Dr. Binhai Zheng’s laboratory, during which she was awarded the F32 Individual Postdoctoral Fellowship by the National Institute of Health. In addition to her training in spinal cord injury research, Amy also received a Career Development Award from the American Heart Association for investigating astrocyte-neuron interaction after stroke at UT Southwestern. In 2020, Amy joined the faculty at the University of Kentucky, in the Spinal Cord & Brain Injury Research Center and the Department of Neuroscience.
